To enroll in Air Force ROTC at the University of Alabama, you simply register for Air Force ROTC classes as you would register for any other course.
Fall Term
Freshmen register for AFS 110 and AFS 101
Spring Term
Freshmen register for AFS 120 and AFS 102
All others should contact us at 205-348-5900 to see if you are eligible. In addition to Leadership Laboratory and class, all cadets are required to attend physical training twice a week.
The PFA is taken every fall and spring term while a cadet is enrolled in Air Force ROTC. Currently, Detachment policy is that all cadets must pass a physical fitness assessment before the end of each semester with a minimum composite score of 75 in order to remain eligible to participate in the program. In order to be issued all uniforms other than the Physical Training Uniform and Detachment 10 polo shirt, freshman and late joining sophomores must pass the PFA when it is first offered at the beginning of the semester.
The PFA is composed of a Body Mass Index evaluation and three events in the following order:
• 1 minute: Push-ups
• 1 minute: Sit-Ups
• 1.5-mile run
All events must be completed. There is a five minute rest period between each event.
All cadets in our program are competing during their underclassman years to earn a slot to attend AFROTC’s Field Training. If selected, cadets participate in Field Training during the summer between their Sophomore and Junior years. This rigorous program involves physical conditioning, weapons training and survival training. More than that, Field Training is your opportunity to test the skills you’ve learned here at Det 10 as both a leader and team member.
Selection for and completing Field Training is required for all cadets who seek membership in the Professional Officer Course (POC ).
If you have more questions please contact our Detachment directly at 205-348-5900 or afrotc@ua.edu.
