Hometown: Moyock, NC Class year: AS400 Major: Criminal Justice Desired Career Field: Cyberspace Operations Extracurricular Activities/Sports/Hobbies: Lifting, running, and playing with my dog Something unique about myself: I ran a 10-mile Spartan Race my freshman year Favorite thing about being in AFROTC: The friendships that I have been able to make. You are with the people in your class multiple times a week for four years. Going through each year and tackling the challenges that go along with it brings you closer. My friends support each other at our highs and our lows. Most challenging part of being in AFROTC: Time management balancing AFROTC, being a full-time student, having a part-time job, and still making time for yourself and your friends What leadership opportunities have you been given as a cadet in AFROTC? I have been able to lead at Det010 as a Flight Acquisitions Officer, Sabres Commander, Physical Fitness Officer, Deputy Inspector General, Deputy Operations Group Commander, and now Inspector General What advice would you give a student thinking about becoming a cadet? Learn to be flexible and have contingency plans. On 10 January 2022, Major General Melvin, a University of Alabama graduate and Silver Star recipient passed away. After graduating from UA in 1954, he became a fighter pilot. Over his 28 year career, Maj Bowling had over 6,500 hours.
On 13 Jan 2022, Det 10 welcomed cadets back for the spring 2022 semester. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the United States Air Force and cadets eagerly learned history facts such as on 13 Jan 1993 then USAF Maj Susan Helms was the first military female in space! Work hard this semester cadets and embody your Diversity and Inclusion word of the semester: perseverance! #RollTide
